Common questions

Getting started

How do I add what I own?

Four ways, and you can mix them. On the Accounts page, search for a coin or stock and add it by hand, or add a wallet by its public address. On the Import page, bring in a CSV file from another app, your broker or a spreadsheet. On paid plans, connect a brokerage or crypto exchange through Plaid, also from the Accounts page. Everything adds up in one portfolio.

How does CSV import work?

On the Import page, choose where the file comes from, upload it (up to 2 MB) or paste the rows, and match the columns. A holdings file brings in positions as they are; a transaction history is replayed to today's positions at average cost. When a cost can't be known, it's left blank rather than guessed.

Which wallets and blockchains can I add?

Wallets on 56 networks, on every plan: paste the public address, or a name such as an ENS name, on the Accounts page. Free includes one wallet. We never ask for private keys or seed phrases. Every supported blockchain, brokerage and exchange is listed on the integrations page.

Which brokerages and exchanges can I connect?

On paid plans, US brokerages and crypto exchanges connect through Plaid, read-only and for investment accounts only. Which ones you can pick depends on Plaid's coverage: search for yours in Plaid's window. For anything else, import a CSV export. Wallets connect by public address on 56 networks, on every plan.

How often do my accounts update?

Connected wallets, brokerages and exchanges sync on their own: every 6 hours on paid plans and once a day on Free. New trades and dividends come in with each sync. To update one now, use Sync now next to it on the Accounts page.

Why does a position show as unrecognized?

When we can't match a position to an asset we track, we keep it as unrecognized rather than guess from its ticker. We're notified and add or link the asset; the position then gets its price and data without you doing anything. Unrecognized positions don't count toward your holding limit.

Plans and billing

Which plans are there?

Four. Free costs nothing, for as long as you use it. Starter is $7 a month, Standard $11 and Premium $20, or $72, $120 and $192 a year. The table above lists what each one includes.

Can I change plans later?

Yes. From Free, choose a plan in Account → Plan and billing. On a paid plan, pick another plan there; you see what it costs before you confirm. A higher plan starts right away and is charged now, for the difference over the rest of the current period. A lower plan, or a move from yearly to monthly billing, starts when the current period ends; until then you keep the plan you paid for.

Can I cancel?

Any time, from Account → Plan and billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, then you're on Free with your portfolio intact. Connected wallets keep syncing once a day; brokerage and exchange sync pauses until you're on a paid plan again.

Do you give refunds?

Payments aren't refundable and we don't credit partial periods, except where the law requires otherwise. The one exception is moving to a higher plan, where the unused part of your current plan counts toward the new one. If you cancel or move to a lower plan, you keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for.

Where do I find invoices or update my card?

In Account → Plan and billing, Manage billing opens Stripe's billing page. There you can update your card, see past invoices and change the email address on your receipts.

Which currency am I charged in?

US dollars, through Stripe, which shows the payment methods it accepts at checkout. Your portfolio can show in any of 30 currencies (Account → Language and currency); that changes what you see, not what you pay.

AI tools, API and alerts

How do I connect Claude, ChatGPT or the command line?

In Claude or ChatGPT, add a custom connector with the address https://sonarfolio.com/api/mcp and sign in when asked; there's no key to copy. Other apps and your own scripts use a personal API key from the API page. In a terminal, install the CLI with npm install -g sonarfolio, then run sonar login. The developers page has step-by-step instructions.

What does the AI connector and API do?

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your own scripts with a personal key. Ask about what you hold, or add a position by chatting. Starter includes market and social data for your holdings; Standard and Premium add the portfolio itself: holdings, P&L and allocation. Connectors can't trade or move funds.

How many API requests are included?

Starter includes 500 AI connector, API and CLI requests a day, Standard 1,000 and Premium 2,000. Every account, Free included, starts with 100 API credits (one request each, given once), and anyone can buy more from $5 to $500 at $1 per 1,000. Credits never expire and are used once the day's included requests run out.

How do alerts work?

On Starter and up, you can set alerts on assets you hold: up to 20 on Starter, and 100 on Standard and Premium. Pick a metric, such as price, a change over a period, volume or market cap (plus social and onchain figures on plans that include them), and a level; the alert fires once when it's crossed. Standard and Premium also get AI alerts, which flag moves that are unusual for that asset. Alerts show in the app and by email; manage them on the Alerts page.

Data

How current is the data?

Prices refresh every few minutes; stock prices move during US market hours. Connected accounts sync on the schedule above. When a price or any other figure is delayed or missing, the page says so instead of showing an old number as current.

Which assets does the data cover?

The ones you hold. Social data covers the assets in your portfolio; add a position and its data appears. Onchain data, alerts, the API and the AI connector follow the same rule.

What if a balance or price looks wrong?

Try Sync now on the Accounts page first: most differences come from a sync that hasn't run yet. If it's still off, write to us below with the asset, the account and what you expected, and choose Data issue as the topic.

Where does the data come from?

Prices, social and onchain data come from market and blockchain data providers, listed on our privacy page. When data is late or missing, the app says so.

Does it prepare tax reports?

No. Sonar tracks what you hold and how it's doing; it doesn't produce tax reports. You can export your transactions to a CSV file for your own records or tax software.

Is this investment advice?

No. It shows what is happening to what you own. What to do about it is your call.

Security, privacy and your account

Can you move my money or place trades?

No. Sonar is read-only. It never asks for trading or withdrawal permissions, and brokerages and exchanges connect through Plaid, which gives it no way to trade or move money.

How is my data protected?

Sonar is read-only. You sign in to brokerages and exchanges on Plaid's screens, so we never see those passwords, and the access token Plaid gives us is stored encrypted. Connecting one needs two-step verification on your account. Wallets are read by public address only. You can delete your account and its data at any time under Account.

How do I turn on two-step verification?

In Account → Two-step verification, scan the code with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator and enter the 6-digit code it shows. From then on, signing in also asks for a code from the app. It's required before you connect a brokerage or exchange. If you lose your phone, email support@sonarfolio.com from your sign-in address to get back in.

How is my data used, and can I get a copy?

Only to run Sonar: we don't sell it or share it with advertisers. You can export your transactions to a CSV file from the Export page at any time, and ask for a copy of your data, or a correction, by emailing support@sonarfolio.com. The privacy policy has the details.

How do I delete my account?

In Account → Delete account. If a paid plan still renews, cancel it first: the Cancel subscription button there opens Stripe's billing page, and once the plan is set to end you can delete. Deleting ends a paid plan right away, without a refund for the rest of the period, and removes your portfolio, accounts and history from our database at once and from backups within 30 days.
