A Yahoo Finance portfolio alternative with crypto built in
Yahoo Finance portfolios are a free, familiar way to follow stocks. Sonar adds crypto wallets and exchanges, one net worth, and social data on every stock and coin you hold.
Updated October 27, 2026
Yahoo Finance portfolios are a simple way to follow stocks: add tickers, enter your lots, watch the quotes. They're free and sit next to Yahoo's news and research. Once your holdings spread across brokerages, exchanges and crypto wallets, you may want something that keeps up on its own. Sonar is one option. Here is an honest comparison.
What Yahoo Finance does well
- Free portfolios. Create a portfolio by hand, import a CSV, or link a brokerage account. Record transactions and lots, track cash (deposits, withdrawals, income and fees) and follow dividends.
- Research around the quotes. Yahoo Finance pairs portfolios with news, charts, financials and watchlists, and Silver and Gold add analyst and Morningstar ratings, research reports, screeners and historical data.
- Portfolio analytics on Bronze. Bronze ($7.95 a month billed yearly, $95.40 a year) adds portfolio performance, volatility risk and diversification views.
- Apps everywhere. Desktop, mobile web, iPhone and Android.
Yahoo Finance suits stock investors who want quotes, news and research in one free place, with a simple portfolio alongside.
Where Sonar is different
- Crypto connected, not typed in. Yahoo quotes crypto pairs, but its help pages don't describe connecting wallets or exchanges. Sonar reads wallets by public address on more than 50 networks, including Ethereum and other EVM chains, Solana, Bitcoin and XRP Ledger, and on Starter, Standard and Premium connects crypto exchanges through Plaid.
- One net worth, with history. Coins, stocks, ETFs and cash in one total. Import past transactions and Sonar rebuilds your portfolio's value from daily closing prices, so the chart starts when you started.
- Performance that accounts for deposits. Change includes money you added or withdrew; unrealized P&L leaves it out. Both are on the Free plan.
- Social data on what you hold. On Starter, each stock and coin you hold shows mentions, engagement, sentiment, social dominance, discussion themes, top creators and news.
- Onchain activity for your coins. On Standard, the coins you hold show holders, transfers, supply concentration and network activity.
- Your portfolio in Claude and ChatGPT. An MCP connector, a REST API and a command-line tool give your assistant or scripts read access to your holdings.
- No ads. Sonar is paid for by subscriptions. Your data isn't sold or used for advertising. See security.
